![]() (Side note: $110+ a bottle at current retail is a lot to ask for a largely glou-glou wine.) However, this carbonic aspect detracts from the experience, for me, and I would guess that these wines will be better drunk on the younger side. There is certainly a lot more body here than in, say, Beaujolais, and the wine carries it off pretty well. Though reasonably long, the finish is crisply defined and ends on a piercing, not quite screechy note that to me screams carbonic maceration - and the overall lifted quality of this wine also seems to derive from this. Nice extract and texture with scrubby red fruits, mixed spices, and clingy savoriness. There is an exciting fresh energy to this wine with an effusively aromatic and floral nose of brewed red fruits and classic Syrah savory notes. I've not gotten into Stephan's wines much to this point but I persuaded myself to give this a go on the cheap via auction. 2020 Jean-Michel Stephan Côte-Rôtie Les Binardes - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie ().The going rate for this cuvée, the lesser of the two Côte-Rôties from the domaine, is over $100 I was pleased to pick up a couple of these at $45 as it is worth that. This is a charming wine pretty much in its drinking window. 2014 Domaine Georges Vernay Côte-Rôtie Blonde du Seigneur - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie ().It is persistent, the balance good,” Ludovic Izérable) ![]() (“It is very Cornas in style, very structured, has a spinal column, just a little astringency from the use of whole bunches, no destemming. This makes for nice drinking now and should continue to do so for quite a while longer. This is pretty straight up, not especially wild, just a hint of savoy smokiness and a wee trace of Brett but no iron, olive, etc., and there's a lightly grainy veil of tannins closes off the finish. ![]() The shape is cool, sculpted marble, impressive in its rigor and purity. This is a dark, meaty wine, blue-black fruits and nice depth and length and with a classic dusty stoniness on the nose and finish. 2011 Domaine Lionnet Cornas Terre Brûlée - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas ()ĭrank over two nights. It’s been a minute so here are some notes:
